Dirk Buyse Grondwerken N.V. works on underground public utility pipelines used to distribute gas, water and electricity, among other things, and cables for telecommunication. It does this by means of drilling techniques that are operated underground. The company works mainly in the province of West Flanders. Its principals include the large Belgian public utility companies (Electrabel, Belgacom and W.V.E.M.). In 2000 Dirk Buyse Grondwerken realized a turnover of approximately EUR 3.7 million. The company presently employs a workforce of more than 40 people. The company's current level of profitability is above the Heijmans average.
The proposed takeover fits within the strategy of strengthening the position of Heijmans International within the Belgian market. The activities of Dirk Buyse Grondwerken tie in well with those of Van den Berg N.V., which has carried out hardly any projects in West Flanders to date.
