MOMA Workspheres Art Exhibit to Display Nokia Mobile Phones

Workspheres examines the balance between work and life, and the important role designers play in devising effective solutions for our ever-changing work paradigms. The concepts bring to life realistic visions of the near future and range in size and type from entire working environments to computer interfaces and personal accessories. The exhibition also presents a selection of prototypes already under development and available products that are designed with sensible and sensitive attention to the way we really want to work.
“Mobile phones are no longer used just for voice – just as our work areas no longer consist of four walls and being tethered to a wall,” said Frank Nuovo, Vice President and Chief Designer of Nokia design. “Nokia is honored to be associated with MoMA and an exhibit that complements Nokia’s vision for a wireless and mobile world where information and the Internet are accessible wherever you are.”
Nokia is well known for its innovative designs that have won accolades around the world. It was the first mobile phone maker to transform the wireless phone from a square black box into a fashion accessory by bringing color, style and personalization to a product category once thought of as an emotionless, technological tool. Nokia will continue this tradition of innovation as the world sees a breakdown of borders and walls and will be able to communicate easily and access information wherever they are. Beginning now and in the future, phones will become mobile devices where data, video and voice will converge and change the definition of a workplace.
“The very people who use our phones are the biggest inspiration in Nokia’s design for the future,” said Nuovo. “People themselves are the revolution that are changing the nature of the workplace, and they will be the biggest impetus as mobile phones evolve into personal trusted devices.”
Workspheres will be open to the public February 8 to April 22, 2001.
