Nokia Strengthens Network Security Portfolio With World Class

(CeBIT, HANOVER, Germany - March 21, 2001) Nokia (NYSE: NOK) today announced a strategic extension to their market-leading family of network security platforms. The Nokia IP51 and the Nokia IP55 appliances deliver high performance security with Check Point (NASDAQ: CHKP) FireWall-1 SmallOffice software to small offices in distributed enterprises and service providers offering managed security services to small businesses.

Many large organizations need to support small offices and integrate these locations into larger and more complex networks. In addition, they must provide secure access for telecommuters and work extension employees who take work home and use a variety of WAN connections.

“Recent attacks on corporate networks through the back door have raised awareness among corporations that want to provide secure network access", notes Greg Shortell, vice president of Sales and Marketing, Nokia Internet Communications. “The Nokia IP51 and the Nokia IP55 are state-of-the-art security platforms for our existing and new customers who want an encompassing security infrastructure to protect the information resources and networks no matter where they are located. These low-cost, entry-level security appliances are designed for customers looking to protect the perimeter of their network and offer the ease of deployment and simple maintenance that a small office requires.”

“Small and medium businesses connecting to the Internet are looking for world-class, robust Internet security", said Asheem Chandna, vice president Business Development and Product Management, Check Point Software Technologies. “Today’s announcement expands Check Point and Nokia’s long-standing relationship and delivers the industry-leading security appliance platform to this important market segment.”

The Nokia IP51 Small Office Security Appliance is an Ethernet-to-Ethernet platform, running Check Point FireWall-1 SmallOffice software, with secured throughput of up to 10 Mbps. The Nokia IP55 can connect to the Internet via the ADSL, which eliminates a need for a separate ADSL device. These newest additions to Nokia’s leading network security portfolio are pre-configured, tested and remotely manageable for rapid deployment and come equipped with 4 10/100 Ethernet ports, built-in DHCP server, and browser-based management. As with all Nokia appliances, the platforms are backed by Nokia’s world class “First Call - Final Resolution” global service and support.

The Nokia Small Office Security Appliances are based on the technology originally developed by Ramp Networks, an experienced provider of Internet appliances designed for the small office. Nokia completed its acquisition of Ramp Networks in January 2001.

Nokia IP Network Security Solutions combine market-leading security software and world class IP routing delivering high-performance network security solutions. Whether in need of a small office security solution, a security appliance ideal for securing the corporate satellite office, or a solution designed for the medium and large business needs for high availability applications, Nokia offers a full range of award winning network protection appliances. Nokia’s full range of network protection, extension and acceleration solutions are designed to meet the most demanding security challenges – fully backed by Nokia’s world class “First Call - Final Resolution” support.
