Sparkseek Launches as Site Search Service with Accounts Reaching Quarter Million

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., April 5, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Sparkseek smashes the 10,000- page-limit barrier for remotely hosted search services by offering standard search accounts reaching up to a quarter million pages, setting a new benchmark for the hosted search industry. CGI Services Network LLC, a company focusing on search-centric applications, today announced the availability of the new search service.

"The focus of our research was spent ensuring the accuracy of our search results. The scalability of the service came naturally as a result of good design. The search engine is actually capable of handling a million pages in a single account," claimed Michael Tanczos, co-developer of the search engine. "The implications of this technology are staggering. An elementary school student with enough skills to enter a list of URLs into our system could create their own massive vertical search portal, no venture capital necessary."

Sparkseek is a powerful, customizable search engine service that makes creating and maintaining a search engine fast and easy for any size site. Standard features include advanced indexing controls, fully customizable search results, site categorization capabilities, and more than 10 detailed daily search statistics. The technology is ideal for both individual sites as well as large collections of web sites.

Search services can be obtained at www.sparkseek.com. A full-featured evaluation account is available for free. Commercial services are also available that are more suitable for large web sites.

Sparkseek's Developers Are Penn State University Students

Sparkseek was developed over the course of a year and a half by two Pennsylvania State University students: Stephen Atherton and Michael Tanczos. Working together, they created a system that could offer standard services that are as great as 50 times more powerful than those offered by their venture-capital backed competitors.

Stephen Atherton, COO of CGI Services Network LLC, is a Computer Engineering major with a passion for the development of search technology. Atherton is responsible for many core components of the search engine. Before developing Sparkseek, he sold computer systems and ran a banner-based free Internet web-hosting network.

Michael Tanczos is CEO. He is currently a Computer Science major at Penn State and has worked with Atherton to develop key algorithms to improve the quality of results for large-scale search indexes. Before this, Tanczos was the driving force behind creating Gamedev.net, a web site focused on game development that currently receives more than 4 million page views monthly.
