LOS ANGELES, April 19, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) announced today that its Litton Sector has awarded 24 high school seniors company-sponsored National Merit/Special Scholarships. Students selected for the prestigious awards will each receive four-year scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $3,500 per year to help finance their education.
Scholarships for 2001 have been awarded to 20 children of employees representing these Litton Sector operations: Avondale Industries, Electron Devices Division, Guidance & Control Systems Division, Integrated Systems Division, Kester Solder, Litton Advanced Systems Division, Litton Corporate, Litton PRC, Litton Ship Systems Full Service Center and TASC. One-time, $2,500 awards were also presented to four non-Litton employee students.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation administers the program and bases its annual selections on students' test scores, academic records, personal leadership and significant extracurricular accomplishments. Each individual's financial needs and the costs of the applicable colleges and universities determine the amount of the scholarships.

Northrop Grumman's Litton Sector encourages all employees whose children meet National Merit Scholarship requirements to enter the scholarship competition. Students who will be in their junior year of high school in the fall of 2001 can receive information on next year's Preliminary Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test from their school. Students can also obtain a Litton Sector National Merit/Special Scholarship entry form from any Litton division human resources department.
