LIFE Outreach International Increases Mission Feeding Program to Help Children in Sudan

FORT WORTH, Texas, April 20, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- LIFE Outreach International, which has been involved in feeding programs in remote areas of Africa since 1990, recently began caring for nearly 25,000 people, mostly children, escaping religious persecution in southern Sudan.

The suffering -- 24,707 to be exact -- were discovered near death from starvation in the war-ravaged region. LIFE Outreach is rushing its mobile food factory and nutritional bulk soup-mix ingredients to Kenya on the Sudanese border. From there, soup mix is being flown in to the people, left homeless following military raids.

The Sudan rescue effort boosts LIFE's Mission Feeding program to 200,000 children and their families being fed monthly in three African nations -- Angola, Mozambique and Sudan. Since the program began, LIFE has saved nearly 5 million lives.

LIFE Outreach recently expanded its crisis relief operations in southern Sudan, flying in tons of supplies -- food, safe drinking water, medical supplies, blankets, clothing, and seed and farming equipment. James Robison, founder and president of LIFE Outreach, said LIFE's mission team recently returning from the besieged area report of men, women and children brutally murdered or left horribly wounded by the military. Many of these refugees had just returned to their homes following earlier raids, which devastated their efforts to rebuild the villages, restore their homes and plant crops.

"These precious people are so grateful for the risks our mission teams take to bring them life and hope," Robison said. "The support LIFE is able to give because of the generous donations of our friends and partners reassures the Sudanese Christians that they are not alone and strengthens their faith." The plight of the Sudanese people is being featured on LIFE's daily television program, "LIFE TODAY," which airs throughout the U.S. and Canada on PAX, Fox Family Network, the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) and Daystar Television Network.
