Northrop Grumman's California Microwave Systems to Begin Work on Sixth U.S. Army ARL-M Aircraft


HAGERSTOWN, Md., April 30, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- California Microwave Systems (CMS), a unit of Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Electronic Sensors and Systems Sector, has been awarded a $10 million increment as part of an estimated $27.4 million contract by the U.S. Army to begin work on a sixth RC-7B Airborne Reconnaissance Low-Multifunction (ARL-M) aircraft.

The contract includes aircraft purchase and modification, prime mission equipment, nonrecurring engineering and integration and test. Work will be performed in Belcamp and Hagerstown, Md., and is expected to be completed in 24 months.

The RC-7B is a modified, four-engine de Havilland DHC-7. The U.S. Army uses the RC-7B to provide airborne reconnaissance and surveillance in support of U.S. forces.

The ARL-M system is a manned airborne collection platform comprised of imagery, radar, communications intelligence, data links and communications systems, which provide near real-time intelligence information to the tactical commander.

California Microwave Systems specializes in airborne reconnaissance and surveillance systems, government ground-based satellite communications systems, communications gateway systems and mission planning.
