Nokia Mobile Entertainment Service is a preintegrated and easily deployed Nokia hosted service for operators and service providers incorporating games, platform, facilitation, server hosting and a developer program. Game application developers and publishers can create interactive entertainment for WAP enabled mobile devices with the Nokia Mobile Entertainment Service. Mobile network operators can provide a vast amount of new, comprehensive value-added services for their customers via the Nokia hosted solution.
By 2002, Nokia estimates that more people will access the Internet via a mobile handset than via a PC. This prediction indicates there is a tremendous potential for mobile entertainment and huge market opportunities for game developers and publishers as well as mobile network operators. Datamonitor has recently estimated that there will be close to 200 million mobile phone users playing wireless games in US and Europe by 2005.
"Nokia is pleased to continue its long standing cooperation with Telia Sweden by providing the state-of-the-art Nokia Mobile Entertainment Service," said Seppo Rantakokko, Managing Director, Nokia Networks, Scandanavia, "Now Telia's mobile subscribers can enjoy the latest interactive games on-line and thanks to the tens of thousands of game developers in the Nokia developer community creating cool and fun applications for the mobile environment there will be no shortage of new diversions."
Nokia will maintain and facilitate the solution, offer full support and develop a large pool of new games created by game application developers. The Nokia Mobile Entertainment Service is connected with Telia's WAP Gateway, allowing subscribers to access games via the Telia's WAP portal, MyDOF.
