Nokia announces cooperation to offer services for the Mediaterminal in Germany

Berlin, 24th of August 2001 - Nokia today announced its cooperation with a variety of companies and content providers to work together to offer services on the Nokia Mediaterminal in Germany. The companies that have signed letters of intent include HypoVereinsbank, memIQ, Otto Versand, Ravensburger Interactive Media GmbH, SES Multimédia S.A., Super RTL, Tipp24.de, urbia.com, TUI.de and wissen.de (Bertelsmann Arvato AG). The Linux-based Nokia Mediaterminal is an innovative device which provides consumers with access to digital television as well as to the full range of entertainment and information services of the internet.

The companies will demonstrate multimedia services which have been tailor-made for the Mediaterminal specifically for the Consumer Electronics' exhibition Internationale Funkausstellung(IFA). It is also the intention of the companies that they will occupy parts of the harddisc integrated in the Mediaterminal and / or of the user interface Nokia Navi (TM) Bars. Through the Mediaterminal the consumer can access any Internet page he or she likes, and also use the offerings particularly developed by the content providers for this product. Nokia Navi (TM) Bars offers space for approximately 50 partners.

"These companies have demonstrated their commitment to the living room of the future. With the Mediaterminal we have laid the foundations for a new dimension of entertainment and information via the TV screen. At the same time we offer interested companies not only an innovative marketing instrument but also an entirely new access to the customer", says Dr. Hartmut Voss, Director Sales and Marketing, Nokia GmbH, Nokia Home Communications.
