Nokia augments personal connectivity with new Bluetooth accessories

Today, Nokia announced three new Bluetooth accessories that allow users to simultaneously simplify and enhance their mobile experience by providing cable-free connectivity with their mobile phones. Available in Europe and Asia in the first quarter 2002, the Nokia Wireless Headset, the Nokia Wireless Car Kit, and the Nokia Connectivity Card are compatible with the latest 1.1 version of the Bluetooth specification. It ensures their interoperability with most of the recent Bluetooth-enabled products.

The Nokia Wireless Headset provides the Nokia 6310, as well as many other Bluetooth compatible devices, with a cordless audio connection. With this headset, users are able to make and receive calls without needing to hold the mobile phone or fumble with wires. The ergonomic design, high audio quality and small size make the use of this new headset easy and unobtrusive for the user. Voice dialing, volume adjustment, and answering and ending calls can be done directly from the headset within a 10 meter radius of the phone.

The Nokia Wireless Car Kit for the Nokia 6310 provides full hands-free functionality in the car environment*, without the need for a physical cable connection or the need to attach a car cradle to the dashboard. Featuring a user-installable remote control for easy call handling, volume adjustment, car-radio muting and ignition sense, it sets new references for mobile phone use. Once the Bluetooth-enabled phone has been paired with the new Car Kit, the phone can, for example, remain in the user's briefcase or purse, while taking incoming calls.

The new Nokia Connectivity Card connects a Bluetooth-enabled phone cordlessly with a compatible PC, allowing ad hoc networking of up to eight devices at the same time. While connected, users can send/receive emails, browse the web, exchange files, send faxes and carry out contacts and calendar synchronisation easily and wirelessly with the Nokia 6310 or Nokia 7650 phones.

"The Nokia Bluetooth accessories introduced today demonstrate how new technologies can help people manage their mobility with increased flexibility. Converging technologies will allow users to enjoy a broader and more intelligent range of devices," said Juha Reima, Vice President, Accessories, Nokia Mobile Phones. "To meet the new requirements of convergence and provide our customers with state-of-the-art accessories in the future, we are also exploring the possibilities of expanding our partner network."

By offering the ability to create automatic, wireless connections between devices within a radius of about 10 meters, Bluetooth allows devices to communicate with each other without a physical cable connection. It is a specification for a small-form factor, low-cost radio solution providing links between mobile phones and other portable handheld devices, plus connectivity to the Internet.

Nokia is the world leader in mobile communications. Backed by its experience, innovation, user-friendliness and secure solutions, the company has become the leading supplier of mobile phones and a leading supplier of mobile, fixed and IP networks.
