A touch of fashion extends to the Nokia classic phone category

Nokia today introduced a new design for its classic category phones with the Nokia 6510 mobile phone. The small and modern Nokia 6510 encompasses a balanced set of features desired from a business phone, as well as the possibility to personalize the phone look with Xpress-on(TM) color covers. In addition, it comes with a mobile wallet and FM radio. The Nokia 6510 is scheduled to start shipping in the 1st quarter, 2002.

"Business users are showing a greater interest in fashion and lifestyle dimensions. With the Nokia 6510 we are offering our business users more options. This is a phone for people who value usability and performance, as well as size and style. It is a smaller, pocket-sized classic phone with a discreet yet inspirational design. The Nokia 6510 complements our range of phones targeted for business users," said Juha Pinomaa, Vice President, Product Marketing, Nokia Mobile Phones.

The Nokia 6510 has a high resolution display with a new pastel blue LED backlight giving enhanced clarity to the display. The display allows users to view four full lines of text at a time, making it ideal for mobile Internet browsing or personal information management, such as viewing the phone book and calendar functions. The phone supports WAP release 1.2.1 and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), as well as HSCSD (High Speed Circuit Switched Data) for flexible data connections.

The Nokia 6510 incorporates a mobile wallet application which allows users to make convenient and secure on-line transactions via the phone's WAP browser. The security module in the phone enables users to digitally sign their transactions. With the wallet feature, it is easy to shop via WAP, using your credit card information to pay for purchases. You can also use the wallet for storing your personal data, such as user names, passwords and numbers. The wallet application supports the ECML (Electronic Commerce Modeling Language) standard. ECML is an open Internet standard (IETF RFC 2706) for digital wallets and online merchants that facilitates the automatic exchange of transaction information.

The phone includes the following features:

Voice dialling with 15 voice tags
Voice commands for up to five features
Voice recording of up to 3 minutes
FM radio available with a separate headset
Calendar with week view
Enhanced Profiles with the possibility to set a timed profile
