Neoware Expands Commitment to Windows Embedded Operating Systems

Windows XP Embedded Gives Neoware Customers Access to the Latest Microsoft Technologies

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., Nov. 28, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Neoware Systems (Nasdaq:NWRE), the leading supplier of award-winning software and solutions for the emerging Appliance Computing market, today announced that it will offer a broad family of thin client computing appliances powered by Windows XP Embedded.

Neoware has joined the Microsoft Windows Embedded Partner (WEP) program and is working closely with Microsoft Corp. to provide feedback that will influence the development of future Windows Embedded operating systems. Neoware intends to be among the first to deliver a Windows XP Embedded-based thin client appliance to market, building upon Neoware's thin client appliance products which currently support all available Windows Embedded operating systems, including Windows CE 3.0 and Windows NT Embedded 4.0.

Unique among thin client appliance vendors, Neoware allows its customers to choose from a variety of operating systems on the same hardware platform, enabling them to migrate and upgrade from one thin client operating system to another by simply changing software and adding memory if required. Neoware will offer a Windows XP Embedded upgrade to its existing customers, allowing them to gain the benefits of the new operating system without requiring the purchase of new thin clients.

All of Neoware's thin client appliances are managed using Neoware's ezRemote Manager software, which is an enterprise-class management tool designed to significantly lower the cost and time associated with administering large networks of thin clients. Neoware will extend the capability of its ezRemote Manager software to manage the new products based upon Windows XP Embedded when they are introduced.

"Neoware's thin client appliances set the standard for Windows NT Embedded 4.0 solutions," said Michael Kantrowitz, president and CEO of Neoware. "Now we intend to raise the bar further by announcing that our existing customers can purchase Neoware products today, confident that they can upgrade to Windows XP Embedded when it is delivered by Microsoft."

"Businesses look to deploy easy and cost-effective thin client solutions that enable task-based workers to securely take advantage of rich 32-bit applications and the Web," said Keith White, senior director of marketing for the Embedded Appliance and Platforms Group at Microsoft. "Neoware's experience with the Microsoft Windows Embedded family of operating systems will allow our joint customers to easily migrate to Windows XP Embedded and gain the benefits of a secure, centrally managed family of thin client appliances."
