Metro Appoints Global Sales Director

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, January 09, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Metro International S.A. ("Metro") (Nasdaq:MTROA) (Nasdaq:MTROB), the international newspaper group, today announced the appointment of Lawson Muncaster as Vice President of Advertising Sales. Muncaster will be responsible for developing Metro's relationship with the international advertising agencies and clients, as well as coordinating the activities of Metro's local sales teams.

Muncaster joined Metro's London office on 7 January 2002 and reports to Metro Chief Operating Officer, Jens Torpe.

Muncaster has extensive experience in the field, having held previous positions as: Vice President of Advertising for global TV channel CNN's operations in the UK, Scandinavia and Holland; Sales Director at UK outdoor advertising company Mills and Allen; and Sales Director at international TV channel Eurosport.

Pelle Tornberg, President & CEO of Metro International, commented: "We have often said that Metro is a printed broadcaster, delivering advertisers' messages to a global audience that is more similar in profile to the TV audience than the traditional newspaper's. Lawson therefore brings the ideal sales background to the task of clearly communicating Metro's unique reach and attractive demographics to advertisers."

"Our focus is to leverage our business by integrating our local sales efforts as well as marketing our 21 editions in 15 countries to existing and target client accounts. A number of the world's leading brands already advertise in Metro editions and Lawson will concentrate on increasing the number of global deals, such as the recently announced agreement with Novamedia."
