HiQ Develops an SMS Service for Train Passengers for Connex

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Feb. 4, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- The IT and management consultancy, HiQ, is developing an SMS service for Connex Tag AB. The service, which can be subscribed for, will provide train passengers with information about cancelled trains and delays.

Connex is part of Connex Transport, a transport company that has offered public transport throughout the world since 1911.

"HiQ is developing an SMS service that will allow passengers to subscribe for information about possible delays or cancelled trains. This is a public service and the aim is to further improve the service provided to customers," says Patrik Boman, Managing Director of HiQ Stockholm.

The service will initially be installed in the Roslagen line (Roslagsbanan).

"Mobile communication is a natural part of every-day life, especially as a means of saving time and avoiding stress. People call work or their friends in their cars, send e-mails while on the bus, or set up meetings via SMS. Connex is a good example of a customer who uses new technology as means of avoiding stress and saving time for their passengers," says Lars Stugemo, CEO of HiQ.

According to a report by the Swedish National Post and Telecom Agency (PTS), SMS traffic is increasing in Sweden.

"According to the PTS, the use of SMS increased by 200 per cent during the first six months of 2001. A new lifestyle has been created because people are now able to communicate through simple text messages from wherever they are," says Stugemo.

The service is activated at www.connex.se/tag and www.sl.se.
