Universal Studios Consumer Products Group brings blockbuster movie content to Club Nokia

World-class movie content is now available to Nokia phone owners in Club Nokia, through a long-term, licensing agreement between Universal Studios Consumer Products Group and Starcut, Nokia's content aggregator for mobile movie entertainment services. Currently available to Club Nokia members in 23 European countries and Australia, the service is accessible from www.club.nokia.com. During 2002, Universal's movie titles will also roll out across most Asia-Pacific countries and the US.

Club Nokia members will be able to download display graphics, ringing tones, text messages (SMS), picture messages, multimedia messages (MMS) and mobile games related to more than 100 of Universal's top film and television titles and franchises, including The Mummy Returns, The Mummy, The Jurassic Park Trilogy, Back to the Future and Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Upcoming promotional film and television titles and access to Universal's vast library of film and television properties will provide consumers with a wide selection of compelling entertainment content for their Nokia mobile phones.

"Starcut's service offers a unique opportunity for Universal and Nokia in the rapidly emerging premium wireless content marketplace," said Tim Rothwell, senior vice president, merchandising and marketing, Universal Studios Consumer Products Group.

Kevin Campbell, senior vice president, New Media Marketing, Universal Pictures, added, "We will be working very closely with Starcut and Nokia to strategically introduce new mobile content to consumers as a key component of our marketing plans for upcoming films. The mobile marketplace is becoming an increasingly important part of our overall marketing strategy and this multi-year partnership gives us tremendous reach in the wireless world."

"For Starcut the recently brokered deal between Nokia and Universal Studios Consumer Products Group is a major step forward in establishing itself as a high-end content aggregator for terminal-specific mobile entertainment services" said Juha Tiihonen, chairman and CEO of Starcut. "As the contractual party for both partners, Starcut takes care of content design and implementation, facilitating the fusion of the best in mobile media and entertainment, and demonstrating its role as an adept bridge-builder between the worlds of mobile telecommunication and entertainment."

"As the content consumption paradigm changes, with entertainment services going mobile, Nokia's collaboration with Universal Studios represents new opportunities for the film and mobile phone industries alike. This collaboration will also benefit operators who will be able to offer their customers branded content," said Ilkka Raiskinen, vice president of applications and services, Nokia Mobile Phones. "Through technological innovations such as multimedia messaging (MMS), the project offers users a broad range of copyright-protected content and services. As such, the agreement concords with Nokia's commitment to broaden and enrich the mobile experience through open standards."

Club Nokia is an online community and loyalty program for Nokia phone owners. Today it offers services to owners of Nokia mobile phones in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. The Club Nokia web and WAP services can be accessed once the Nokia phone is registered with Club Nokia. In the near future, Club Nokia services will be available to Nokia phone owners globally.
