The National Scrip Center Names New President and CEO

SANTA ROSA, Calif., Feb. 19, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- The National Scrip Center, a nonprofit organization and the leader in the Scrip-based fundraising industry, announced today that is has named David C. Carrithers as the new President and CEO. David comes to The National Scrip Center (NSC) with a thorough background in the gift certificate and stored-value card industry. He has spent several years in product development and product management. His focus and passions lie in stored-value cards, gift certificates and technologies that further the convenience, usefulness and growth of alternative currencies. He has a proven track record building, growing and improving the way businesses are managed and operated. David's product development experience and natural knack for marketing will benefit NSC, the nonprofit community it serves and the merchant partners it works with exponentially.

The main draw for David was the unique opportunity and continued growth that The National Scrip Center offers. The National Scrip Center is a nonprofit organization that helps raise funds for over 8,600 member nonprofits nationwide. NSC has raised over $160 million for its member nonprofits over the past 14 years and last year helped its member nonprofits raise over $25 million. NSC charges nothing for its services. NSC works as a strategic partner with over 260 national and regional merchants, including Home Depot, JC Penney and Macy's, to raise funds. Through this partnership, merchants contribute to NSC's member nonprofits. The service NSC provides helps NSC merchant partners reward customer loyalty by giving back to the nonprofits in the communities they serve.

When asked what he would like to accomplish as the new leader of The National Scrip Center, David said, "We will continue focusing on our 8,600 Nonprofit Affiliate partners and help them raise the funds they need in the easiest, fastest and most sustainable way possible. Our partners deserve our help in growing their programs so they can achieve anything and everything they set their sights on. We will continue to grow the number of nonprofits served by NSC. We will continue to add to our existing product lines, merchant partnerships and customer support services. We exist for one simple reason, to grow the fund-raising ability of nonprofits throughout the United States -- helping them exceed their goals and objectives as an organization."

Before joining The National Scrip Center, David was lead negotiator and business architect in setting up American Express Incentive Services, a $750 million stored-value business. There he was the CIO and VP of Technology and New Business Development, responsible for developing new products, new markets, technology development and the overall web business. David has also held the position of Vice President of Corporate Development for Maritz, Inc., a $2.3 billion private business, where he was responsible for product development, strategic planning, acquisitions, business and market development. Most recently, he ran his own consulting company called BusinessHive, a consulting business focused on loyalty, new product development and business planning. David earned his bachelors degree from Loyola University in New Orleans, LA and his MBA from Trinity College in Hartford, CT. He also completed advanced certificates from Northwestern University's Kellogg School and University of Wisconsin.

NSC is looking forward to David leading The National Scrip Center, its Nonprofit Affiliates and its Merchants Partners to new heights. "The future is about growth at NSC -- growth of fund-raising tools, products and support. Every thought and every action we have at NSC is focused on helping nonprofit organizations through ease, choice and value in innovative stored-value, certificate and credit card products that raise necessary funds. With over 650,000 nonprofit organizations in the United States needing additional funds to grow and support their programs, NSC offers a clear and direct opportunity for them to grow. Today is just the first step towards a brighter future."
