The Force is strong with Nokia as Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones arrives

Lucasfilm and Nokia have entered into a multi-year agreement to bring the adventure of the Star Wars saga to the mobile world via Club Nokia, Nokia's online community and loyalty program for Nokia phone owners. The agreement also encompasses a joint promotional campaign featuring the Nokia 3410 and 3510 phones around the theatrical release of Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. Star Wars themed mobile services will be available from www.club.nokia.com in Europe, the Middle East and Africa within the next two weeks and across most of Asia during April.

Nokia phone owners will enjoy exciting interactive services and download Star Wars-related content to their phones through Club Nokia, such as still and animated graphics (phone logos, caller group graphics, picture messages, and screensavers) as well as standard and polyphonic ring tones, MMS services and a variety of mobile games, including Java games, developed in cooperation with LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC. LucasArts is one of the world's leading developers of interactive entertainment software and one of four companies in the Lucasfilm group. Star Wars-themed Nokia Xpress-on(TM)phone covers will also be available for select Nokia phones, including the Nokia 3410, 3510 and 3300 series.

Howard Roffman, President of Lucas Licensing, states "We are thrilled to be working with Nokia to offer rich, immersive Star Wars content through the medium of mobile communication. Nokia is the industry leader and a company who shares George Lucas' pioneering spirit in the broad field of mass communication."

"This agreement is an excellent example of how powerful a distribution channel the mobile phone is today. Bringing the mobile phone and the entertainment content of Star Wars together, creates new exciting opportunities to extend the most successful film franchise to the digital mobile space. Through this agreement, Lucasfilm is able to offer compelling Star Wars services directly to the mobile phones of its huge fan base around the world, and Nokia is able to continue providing its customers with premium entertainment content. This is also a win-win opportunity for mobile network operators to collaborate with Nokia to bring the rich experience of Star Wars to their customers through Club Nokia, utilizing the latest technological innovations such as MMS and Java," said Ilkka Raiskinen, vice president, mobile applications and services, Nokia Mobile Phones.

Starcut, Nokia's content aggregator for mobile movie entertainment services, brings its publishing and media expertise to create a world class mobile Star Wars area in Club Nokia, ensuring that consumers receive an immersive, fun experience that is easy to use and frequently updated.

"Starcut is very excited to work with Lucasfilm and Nokia to bring the collective experience of Star Wars saga to the mobile world for the first time. For the latest mobile applications, such as Java, polyphonic ring tones, multimedia messaging (MMS) and games, Star Wars provides a unique world to create exciting and fun mobile entertainment. This deal further strengthens Starcut's role as a premium content publisher for terminal-specific mobile entertainment services." said Juha Tiihonen, CEO of Starcut.

Club Nokia is an online community and loyalty program for Nokia phone owners. Today it offers services to owners of Nokia mobile phones in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. The Club Nokia web and WAP services can be accessed once the Nokia phone is registered with Club Nokia. In the near future, Club Nokia services will be available to Nokia phone owners globally.
