News flash: Active, lighted FUNctional covers arrive for Nokia phones

ORLANDO, FLA - Coinciding with the launch of Nokia's two newest 'Expression' category phones, the CDMA2000 1X Nokia 3585 phone and the GSM/GPRS Nokia 3590 phone, Nokia today announced a new line of 'FUNctional' Xpress-on covers that build upon Nokia's leadership in mobile phone personalization. These FUNctional covers are expected to be available during the second half of 2002.

Included in this new line of covers are 3 Active Covers for each phone, integrating lights directly into the user-changeable cover, 3 glow-in-the-dark covers for each handset, and for the Nokia 3590 phone, a special 'Gaming Cover' that transforms the phone keypad into a controller optimized for mobile game play. A new reflective cover, influenced by the reflective materials used in athletic wear, will also be available for the Nokia 3585 phone.

Designed for the user looking for the ultimate in self-expression, three new FUNctional 'Active Cover' designs for each handset include abstract, animal-themed, and space-influenced designs, each having light points integrated directly into the cover. As the built-in polyphonic MIDI ringer on the Nokia 3585 and Nokia 3590 phones sounds, the lights illuminate in sync with the selected ring tune. This synchronized light show works in conjunction with any of standard or polyphonic ring tunes that come preinstalled, or for an added touch of customization, with ring tunes that have been downloaded into the phone's memory.

Realizing that many customers choose to express themselves as much at night as during the day, Nokia is introducing a new line of glow-in-the-dark covers for the Nokia 3585 and Nokia 3590 phones. These new designs include one solid cover for a bold 'glowing phone' look, and a line of covers sporting fresh new designs with glow-in-the-dark accents. These graphical glowing covers are influenced by nature and tribal art, with designs that include stylized tigers, lizards and butterflies. The tiger-themed cover for the Nokia 3590 phone was designed in conjunction with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and a royalty of 5% of the estimated retail price is received by the WWF on all sales of this cover.

With built-in games, high-definition MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) sound and the ability to download additional Java games, the Nokia 3590 phone has capabilities that gamers will appreciate. To make the gaming experience even more rewarding, an optional FUNctional Xpress-on gaming cover, which features a full directional pad and two action buttons, is also being made available as part of this new line of covers. Finally, a new reflective Xpress-on cover for the Nokia 3585 phone, which like the latest athletic and active wear has light-reflecting properties, is an option for those users who want to express their active lifestyle.
