Northrop Grumman Receives Environmental Awards from Hampton Roads Sanitation District


NEWPORT NEWS, Va., May 10, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Newport News sector has received two Gold Pretreatment Excellence Awards and the Pollution Prevention Award from the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD). The sector was honored for its exemplary environmental compliance record and demonstrated commitment to environmental excellence.

The Gold Award signifies a perfect compliance record for the year 2001. The Pollution Prevention Award is presented to industries for outstanding multimedia (air, land, water) pollution prevention efforts during 2001. There is only one recipient in each category.

Amy Cheatham from Environmental Engineering and Philip Edwards from Recycling and Waste Services accepted the awards on behalf of the sector at an awards luncheon held in Virginia Beach May 8. "Our employees do an exceptional job monitoring and reporting requirements mandated by the environmental permits from HRSD," said Cheatham. "These awards are the result of the combined efforts of hundreds of people throughout the company."

"The efforts of our Pollution Prevention Task Team have really been beneficial for our company," said Frank Thorn, manager of Environmental Engineering. "The team has been very proactive in implementing pollution prevention measures which have reduced environmental risk and have proven to be a more cost-effective way to do business."
