Cyber Com: Internet Banks' Services Attract -- but Routines are Still Complicated

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, May 21, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Simple payment services are most important for Sweden's Internet-bank customers. There's a huge need to develop e-giro and e-invoice services.

This conclusion is the result of Cyber Com Consulting's comprehensive survey of 20,000 Internet bank customers. Using customer demand as a starting point, survey analysts compared and evaluated 11 Internet banks in Sweden.

About 25% of the Sweden's inhabitants are Internet-bank customers, and the number is increasing. Sweden's Internet banks are well developed but the routines are still perceived as complicated, and customers want everything to be simple -- including graphics, design, login, navigation, and service procedures/implementation.

Internet-bank customers say that payment services are the most
important; right now, they have three options:
 1. Manual payment - paper invoices and checks/giro forms.
 2. Autogiro - paper invoices and automatic payment routines.
 3. e-giro and e-invoice - electronic invoicing and paying
          via Internet banks.

Many Internet banks must offer e-giro and e-invoice to their customers so that this service gets off the ground and becomes a realistic option. The two main systems that compete for this service must merge to more quickly facilitate connections to parties that issue invoices.

"Innovative thinking is needed in the development of Internet banks," said Bjorn Julin, survey manager. "Customers want real-time routines that streamline processes and put an end to paper pushing. This requires courage and willingness to re-engineer routines that are 20-30 years old."

SEB was the highest-ranking bank in this year's survey; SkandiaBanken and ForeningsSparbanken trailed closely behind. These banks participated in the survey: ForeningsSparbanken, Handelsbanken, Ikanobanken, Lansforsakringar Bank, Nordea, SEB, SkandiaBanken, Sparbanken Finn, Sparbanken Gripen, Stadshypotek Bank, and Ostgota Enskilda Bank.
