Nokia securely extends 78-country global network for the Würth Group

The Würth Group, a global major supplier of fixing and assembly materials, has selected Nokia’s IP network security platforms integrating VPN-1® /Firewall-1® from Check Point Software Technologies (NASDAQ: CHKP) for a 78-country network – the Würth Global Net (WGN). The combined Nokia and Check Point solutions provide network protection and extension to mobile employees and business partners in more than 265 operating companies around the world. Both use of the WGN and the deployed solutions have contributed to the company’s double-digit growth.

The Würth Group created the WGN to improve customer relationship and increase supply chain management whilst maintaining information confidentiality. Closer links were also required for its partners and over two million customers, including shipping and financial services companies, to enable secure ease of access to time-critical data such as the Würth Group’s 50,000 products.

The WGN is based on enterprise-wide security standards and entry is only permitted once each company’s system satisfies the group’s global standards. In establishing this network, the Würth Group looked for a future-proof innovative and trusted brand offering reliable and scalable solutions for its worldwide Internet-based system. All this also required the 24-hour service and support from Nokia: "Professionalism, availability and service are the survival factors for security suppliers. Nokia’s appliances were highly scalable and provided the highest level of availability," comments Walter Riederer, a Würth Group IT Security Manager.

Nokia provided different versions of its IP network security platforms combined with best-of-breed partner software, Check Point VPN-1® /FireWall-1 ® for The Würth Group’s firewall requirements. Nokia IP network security solutions combine this market-leading security software and world-class IP routing for low to high-end network protection.

The Würth Group has improved supply chain management, access to time-critical information and cut operational costs. Riederer explains,"Our partners are now very close to our business processes. It is our responsibility to provide consistent customer satisfaction whilst protecting our international communications."

Ernie Jones, vice president sales, Europe Middle East Africa, Nokia Internet Communications adds, "Operations of such a multinational organisation depend on excellent communications. Nokia’s and Check Point’s market-leading solutions have enabled the Würth Group to securely open up business systems which would never have been accessible before. This combination enables secure connectivity and implementing this for Würth Group’s customers and mobile sales force is key to the way we do business. Secure systems create opportunities for outward-looking organizations."
