Northrop Grumman Continues Early Aircraft Deliveries

FARNBOROUGH 2002 AIR SHOW, FARNBOROUGH, U.K., July 23, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Integrated Systems sector continues to deliver new and modified U.S. Navy aircraft ahead of schedule. Ongoing production improvements by employees in the sector's St. Augustine, Fla., and Bethpage, N.Y., facilities are getting aircraft into the customers' hands faster than ever.

So far this year, two new E-2C Hawkeye 2000 airborne early warning and control aircraft have been delivered to the Navy at least a month each ahead of schedule. Over the last few months, six EA-6B Prowler electronic warfare aircraft that were in St. Augustine for modification and upgrade work were delivered ahead of their due dates. Five were completed more than a month early.

Integrated Systems' Airborne Early Warning and Electronic Warfare (AEW&EW) Systems business area performs design and engineering work on the E-2C and EA-6B in Bethpage. Both aircraft are produced or modified and upgraded in the St. Augustine facility.

"We are very pleased with our delivery performance over the last year. In 2001, we delivered six E-2Cs, one on time and five early, and 17 EA-6Bs, every one ahead of schedule," said Philip A. Teel, Jr., vice president, Integrated Systems sector, AEW&EW Systems. "Vigorous application of Lean principles by an enthusiastic and creative workforce both on the shop floor and in our engineering center is driving down the time it takes to build and modify aircraft while driving up the quality of our products to increasingly higher levels."

AEW&EW Systems engineers in Bethpage are taking a new look at the manufacturing process of the E-2C Hawkeye. With the Hawkeye Radar Modernization Program underway, they are re-evaluating the design of many components to identify better ways to fabricate and assemble parts.
