American Airlines Executives and Government Officials to Celebrate Completion of LAX Terminal 4 Renovations

$300 Million Upgrade Includes New Customs and Immigration Facility


LOS ANGELES, July 31, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- MEDIA ADVISORY -- Local and federal officials will join American Airlines (AA) executives to unveil the newly completed Terminal 4 renovations at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Thursday, August 1, 2002. The 4-year, $300 million project, the largest single improvement project undertaken at LAX, includes widespread renovations throughout the AA terminal, as well as a new Customs and Immigration facility.


 WHAT:  Celebration to mark the completion of LAX Terminal
        4 renovations including:

        -- Expanded ticket lobby with twice as many check-in 
           positions, new electronic signage and One-Stop Self-Service
           check-in devices
        -- Expanded security check points
        -- High-speed, state-of-the-art outbound baggage handling
           system
        -- Enlarged baggage claim area with more bag-claim devices
        -- New 2,100 square-foot ramp control tower including the
           latest computer and aviation technology
        -- Spacious food and gift court
        -- 50 percent increase in restroom facilities
        -- Enhanced seating designs in gate areas offering twice the
           seating
        -- New 25,000 square-foot Admirals Club featuring distinctive
           architectural design and sweeping views of the ramp area,
           11 private showers, three conference rooms and seating for
           440
        -- Newly constructed Customs and Immigration facility with 
           moving walkway to the Tom Bradley International Terminal
           (TBIT)

PARKING: Broadcast-equipped TV and radio vehicles may park curbside at Terminal 4 on Upper/Departure Level. These vehicles must be attended at all times. All other media may park for free at metered parking stalls located at open-air Parking Lots 3, 4 (across from terminal) or 6 by displaying the LAX Media Parking Permit.
