Scania Chooses WM-data to Supply e-Learning

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Sept. 12, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Scania has signed a contract with WM-data to set up a Training Management System (TMS). The system will provide the company's full program for educating and training technicians and will make it possible for Scania managers to direct and co-ordinate competence and training efforts effectively. The contract with Scania covers a three-year period with an initial value of approximately SEK 30M.

WM-data has been a preferred supplier to Scania for a number of years. This relationship is strengthened by co-operation on the TMS-project, which is divided into five steps, the first one being a pilot project. After verifying the pilot results, targeting 500 technicians at Scania, the strategy will be to cover all employment categories and thereby support all training and education within the Scania group. Training will be made available in ten different languages. The initiative represents a radically new way to strategically harness and improve competence within a large corporation like Scania.

"We have been looking for years to find a TMS that meets all of Scania's training and administrative requirements," said Steen Gram, Sales and Marketing Manager at Scania. "We are working within a large international company group and it has become more and more important to optimize the use of resources employed in competence development. The combination of WM-data and Docent Enterprise offers the best TMS to support our operations. WM-data has got both the experience and knowledge in TMS and e-Learning to earn our confidence and to qualify as our partner in this far-reaching project."

The WM-data undertaking covers project management, design, system installation, deployment and operation of the Docent Enterprise LMS. Using the system, thousands of employees within Scania will have access to a great many training and educational activities. This provides the means to secure the right competence to keep up with Scania's rapid technological development. WM-data also supports Scania in managing the organizational change brought on by the introduction of a TMS. WM-data is the premier distributor of Docent Enterprise in Sweden.

"We at WM-data see a growing demand for our e-Learning services. Our unique skills in the field of e-Learning allow us to provide organizational development, system technology as well as content solutions to our customers," said Sven-Eric Ersson, WM-data's project manager at Scania. "The ability of a company to quickly, and cost effectively, develop the skills of both their own as well as their partners employees will provide a competitive edge. WM-data has been creating solutions and building competence in this field to better serve and strengthen our customers competitiveness."

The system is based on the Docent LMS (Learning Management System) and supports planning, publishing and maintenance of training as well as advanced reporting and tracking. Scania employees can see the availability of training and courses, select the courses they prefer, participate in training activities and complete certifications. This way they can maintain their expertise and simultaneously managers can track the level of training and get an up to date picture of the skills and knowledge of their staff.
