AIR FORCE ASSOCIATION NATIONAL CONVENTION, WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 17, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- The U.S. Air Force Electronic Systems Center has selected a Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC)-led team to field its tactical datalink network management system. With this new capability, Joint Interface Control Officers (JICO) will be able to ensure real-time sharing of threat, target and command and control information.
Northrop Grumman estimates that work on the Interim JICO Support System (I-JSS) will total approximately $6 million over two years for its Information Technology (IT) sector.
"Without reliable communications during wartime, commanders are masked from the situation they must control," said Barry Rhine, president, Defense Mission Systems, Northrop Grumman IT. "We are proud to provide systems that ensure that the Air Force can exploit the latest communication technologies when they are needed most."
"The Interim JICO Support System will provide the ability to dynamically manage tactical datalink networks," said Mike Twyman, vice president, Communication and Information Systems Division (CISD), Northrop Grumman IT.
Northrop Grumman IT will produce the I-JSS at its CISD facility in San Diego, Calif. The system will support JICO in managing the tactical data link communications network architecture during combat operations. The I-JSS provides the ability to dynamically plan, monitor, assess and adapt tactical datalink networks in support of network-centric operations. The I-JSS currently supports dynamic management of Link-16 and Link-11 networks and is based upon proven technology currently supporting all U.S. services.
Northrop Grumman IT leads the I-JSS team, which includes ViaSat, Carlsbad, Calif., and Advanced Programming Concepts, Austin, Texas.
