Two percent of all newborns can not breathe on their own. The degree to which today's manual hand pumps can be regulated is quite limited, which can lead to chronic lung damage.
Kitron Development was given the assignment this past winter to build a prototype in which the fundamental functions of a mechanical ventilator - that is, control over inhalation and exhalation - can be transferred to manual pumps.
