Can War Really Lead to Peace? New Book Reveals Hard-Hitting Insights on American Foreign Policy

CORA, Wyo., Dec. 5, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Is war really the answer to September 11? Is war the only solution? Will the annihilation of Afghanistan make things right and quench our thirst for revenge? Vietnam taught us a bitter lesson. In our desire to show the world that we are willing to go to war to achieve peace, we become our own enemy. Veteran political writer Otis Carney, in his new book "Wars R' Us: Taking Action for Peace" (now available through 1stBooks Library), provocatively discusses Americans' political conviction and patriotism for a very elusive objective -- world peace.

Carney warns that whatever military reputation America has gained from wars fought in the name of peace is now put in serious jeopardy because of the September 11 tragedy, an incident that happened right under the nose of the most powerful military in the world. Under the guise of avenging the deaths of thousands of Americans, Afghanistan was attacked. Carney suggests that the attack on Afghanistan is just the analgesic opted for by the "greatest" military minds to ease the pain of a wounded pride.

Carney opens the minds of ordinary Americans to rise up and demand, in their own small way, changes in our foreign policy that will hopefully lead to a world with genuine peace and harmony, where war is avoided in the settlement of international issues, including terrorism. He stresses that something has to be done for 9/11 and further argues that America must make a stand, not by starting a war that will spread the wildfire of terrorism further, but by showing the world that even if America is hurt badly, it can stand up and make peace.

A World War II veteran, Otis Carney has authored many bestsellers. He has also created series and screenplays for well-known actors, written for presidential candidates and occasionally dabbled in journalism. Otis has won the Freedom Foundation and Western Heritage awards and was cited for his landmark campaign film Choice. A graduate of Princeton and a retired Marine Corps captain, Carney and his wife, Teddy, are living a fulfilled life in Cora, Wyo. and Bonita, Ariz., where they have cattle ranches.
