The first of the new generation of flexible automation systems developed by the Aarberg centre of excellence has been sold and can now serve as a reference system. As it has a clear edge over the competition, this promising new model is attracting a lot of attention among customers. It will be given its world premiere at this year's Motek automation fair. This system will continue to be manufactured at Aarberg. Focusing on this flexible, modular concept with its reduced assembly times will enable the site to improve its cost structures and thus open the way to solutions that are both technically and financially attractive.
New management at Aarberg implements redundancy scheme
Martin Pfister, already a member of the executive management, has been put in charge of the Aarberg site. This will take the pressure off development manager Claudio Garbani, who can now concentrate on the division's development projects. Following restructuring, just under 40 people will be working in Aarberg. These people are also ready to make their contribution. While some staff are being transferred within the Group, approximately 20 redundancies will take effect in the next few months. Apprentices will be given the opportunity to complete their training at Aarberg and Lyss. The staff affected have been informed in person and will receive individual counselling under the redundancy scheme.
Order intake up in February
While the level of orders received by the Automation division (module and systems technology) in the 1st quarter of the current financial year - which runs from 1 October 2002 to 30 September 2003 - was good, February saw an upturn in orders for automation systems. Although the situation varies from one site to another, the division as a whole now has over 6 months' worth of orders in hand.
