Martinsried/Munich, Germany; Mahwah/New Jersey, USA. March 5, 2003. ADVA Optical Networking (FSE: ADV), a leading global provider of optical networking solutions, today announced that pan-European carrier's carrier LambdaNet Communications has deployed ADVA's Fiber Service Platform (FSP) products in metro core network infrastructure in five German cities. The FSP 2000 and 3000 are marketed and sold to LambdaNet under the Siemens WaveLine label by Siemens IC Networks. LambdaNet marks another important customer win as the ADVA and Siemens partnership continues to gain momentum in the European market.
LambdaNet today operates an optical transmission- and IP-network throughout Europe, which currently measures 22,000 kilometers and connects more than 100 cities in eleven countries. During the latter half of 2002, the carrier's carrier installed approximately 40 STM-4 and STM-16 links in point-to-point and linear add/drop configurations in five German cities. Utilizing Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology, this metro network infrastructure has enabled LambdaNet to deploy important new services for its carrier and enterprise customers. Additional deployments are targeted for other European cities over the next several years.
"Together with our partner Siemens, ADVA continues to demonstrate its leadership position in the European market for metro optical networking solutions," stated Jürgen Hansjosten, Chief Sales Officer at ADVA Optical Networking. "Despite the ongoing weak carrier spending environment, we are seeing positive signs as an increasing number of European carriers selectively deploy metro core and regional network infrastructure to address fiber relief concerns and leverage optical technologies to deploy new services."
