ADVA Optical Networking (FSE: ADV), a leading global provider of optical networking solutions, today launched a new Slimline chassis version of its Fiber Service Platform (FSP) 3000 product. Targeted at transporting a limited number of high-bandwidth applications from customer premise sites to metro network infrastructure, ADVA's FSP 3000 Slimline significantly lowers capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operating expenditure (OPEX) costs for carrier and enterprise customers. Lower CAPEX investments are achieved by reducing the equipment quantity and size deployed at customer premise and access sites. OPEX savings result from less equipment space and power consumption, and platform consistency with ADVA's standard FSP 3000 eliminates the need for training and additional spares.
The new FSP 3000 Slimline chassis measures a compact 19-inch width and 3 rack units in height, and holds up to 2, instead of the usual 8, channel cards. All standard FSP 3000 channel cards meet the specifications of the Slimline chassis slots and are interchangeable, requiring no special line cards to be purchased for the smaller chassis size. The FSP 3000 Slimline is fully compatible and interoperable with ADVA's standard FSP 3000 platform and network management integration is seamless. Designed for high-speed, point-to-point or feeder connections between customer premise sites and metro rings, the FSP 3000 Slimline chassis provides an optimum solution for Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel, or any application between 100Mbit/s and 10Gbit/s. The Slimline supports distances up to 80 kilometers without regeneration, and integrated Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs) and regenerators enable transport up to 500 kilometers.

The FSP 3000 is ADVA's carrier-class infrastructure solution for metro access, core, and regional networks. Targeted toward carriers and service providers, the parallel use of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) and Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) technology enables all protocols between 8Mbit/s and 10Gbit/s and up to 256 applications to be transported over one single fiber pair. The FSP 3000 design supports point-to-point, linear add/drop, ring, and meshed network topologies with up to ten nodes across distances up to 500 kilometers without regeneration.
The new FSP 3000 Slimline chassis will be released for general availability in volume shipment in early March 2003.
