Northrop Grumman Information Technology Achieves ISO 9001 Registration

HERNDON, Va., March 13, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Information Technology (IT) sector has received International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2000 registration for its quality management system. The ISO 9001 registration provides Northrop Grumman IT with a distinction in the industry, recognizing the company's focus on customer satisfaction.

"This achievement reflects our commitment to quality and continuous process improvement," said Herb Anderson, president, Northrop Grumman IT. "This designation reinforces the confidence that our customers have placed in us for providing quality solutions."

The quality management system supports key Northrop Grumman IT business areas: hardware and software maintenance; systems administration; network design; systems integration and modernization; and facility management systems.

Northrop Grumman IT achieved this registration by planning, developing, documenting and auditing its quality management system, followed by an independent audit of the system from National Quality Assurance, USA (NQA). NQA's third party audit reviewed all aspects of the Northrop Grumman IT quality management system relating to the ISO 9001:2000 standard. This audit included documentation requirements, quality manual, document control, records control, management responsibility, policy and objectives, quality management systems planning, resource management, training, infrastructure, product realization, customer property measurement analysis, customer satisfaction, internal auditing; and corrective and preventive action. NQA found no major nonconformities with respect to the requirements of the ISO 9001 standard.

ISO 9000 is a generic management system standard from ISO, located in Geneva, Switzerland. ISO 9001:2000 specifies the requirements necessary for an ISO-compliant quality management system. The major challenges of ISO 9001:2000 are the eight quality management principles that are the focus of the standard: customer focus; leadership; involvement of people; process approach; system approach to management; continual improvement; factual approach to decision-making; and mutually beneficial supplier relationships.
