Nokia launches the Nokia Remote DSL System solution to help broadband operators reach remote revenues

SUPERCOMM, Atlanta, Georgia, June 3, 2003 - Nokia today announces the availability of the Nokia Remote DSL System solution. The system includes the Nokia Remote Deployment Access Cabinet (RDAC), the Nokia D500 Remote Access Multiplexer (RAM), the Nokia Central Office Power System (CPS) and the Nokia Remote Power System (RPS), all providing multiple DSL flavors for remote broadband locations.

The Nokia RDAC aims to help broadband operators reduce the costs of reaching the large potential of additional revenues represented by remote users. The Nokia RDAC offers a fully integrated rapid deployment solution that does not require Right of Way, site works or heavy cable re-routing or splicing.

"Nokia has looked carefully at the cost and efficiency challenges associated with remote DSL deployments and built a solution that aims to help broadband operators reduce costs in construction and installation, commissioning and turn up, as well as in provisioning. This solution has been designed to allow these operators to more easily reach the potential revenues offered by remote DSL subscribers, " comments Russ Adams, Head of Site Solutions, Broadband Systems, Nokia Networks.

The system solution supports up to 192 ports of ADSL, and 96 ports of VDSL, and can support
both remote or local powering. The solution can also be equipped with air induction or a heat exchanger for thermal management.

Copper delivery of higher speed services demands shorter loops and technologies such as fiber and VDSL, but shortening the loop involves locating the access equipment closer to the end customer.  This involves many challenges in addressing the physical footprint, adapting the existing service provider network, as well environmental considerations. The Nokia Remote DSL System solution is built to enable broadband operators to deal with these challenges in the most cost-efficient manner possible.
