Global Mobile 2003 Opens Today; More Than 600 Attendees and 100 Speakers From Five Continents Expected to Converge on San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 24, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Global Mobile 2003, a one-of-a-kind wireless conference dedicated to mobile applications, begins tonight at Marina Village, in San Diego, California. More than 600 attendees and 100 senior executives are expected to participate in this inaugural event. These wireless industry leaders and experts will spend two days shaping the future of mobile communications as they go "In Search of the Killer App." For detailed conference information and agendas, visit www.sms.ac/globalmobile.

Just last week, it was announced that eight-time Grammy Award winner and mobile music icon Herbie Hancock will participate on the panel titled, "Content to Mobile Phones," taking place on Thursday, September 25, at 11:10 a.m. The panel is designed to address the opportunities and challenges associated with the delivery of content, including music, to wireless devices.

According to event organizers, Global Mobile 2003 is designed as a conference where deals get done. Those in attendance are coming from five continents. 37% of the speakers are CEOs, and conference attendees have a profile to match. Global Mobile 2003 participants represent a microcosm of the wireless and mobile communications industries -- wireless operators, application developers, handset manufacturers, content creators, wireless data service providers and more. Some of the global companies taking part include AvantGo, Leap Wireless, LG InfoComm, LogicaCMG, mBlox, Mobileway, Mojo Games International, Nokia, T-Mobile, Motorola, Netsize, Octane Mobile, Qualcomm and Verizon.

Global Mobile 2003 is pleased to announce that 25-year wireless industry veteran Bob Egan will be moderating panel discussions on both mobile gaming and handset technology. Bob is president and founder of Mobile Competency, a leading mobile and wireless consulting and advisory company. Additionally, Jeremy Geelan, Group Publisher of SYS-CON Media and former editorial director of Wireless Business and Technology, will lead sessions exploring how companies can generate revenue through mobile communications and what factors the industry must avoid on the road to success. And Jonathon Linner, CEO of Enpocket, a leading mobile marketing solution provider, will participate in a discussion of issues related to mobile billing and third-party integration.

"The buzz around this event is electrifying," said Michael Pousti, chairman and chief executive officer at SMS.ac, Inc. (www.sms.ac). "The next few days are going to be amazing as the wireless world comes together here. Perhaps what's most amazing is that this conference was conceived and is being implemented by the staff of a San Diego-based wireless communications start-up that was simply tired of going to other industry events, filled with infomercials. We built this conference around substantive content and dialogue in a fun, rocking environment."

All Global Mobile 2003 participants are invited to two "Always Connected" networking parties. On Wednesday, September 24, the welcome party atmosphere will be heightened with a live performance by musical group Lapdog (former members of the superstar band, Toad the Wet Sprocket). Attendees will also receive delicious food and ice-cold Samuel Adams Beer, the "Official Beer of Global Mobile 2003." On Thursday, September 25, the networking continues San Diego-style, with more food and beverage and a live performance by internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Rick Monroe and his band.

Further distinguishing Global Mobile 2003 from other conferences is the fact that parties, as well as breakfast and lunch on both days, are included in the registration fee. Even lunchtime will keep the beat going with live music by local artists including Across the Room, with drinks from Hansen's Sodas and Sierra Springs Water, the "Official Water of Global Mobile 2003."

Although pre-registration for Global Mobile 2003 is closed, anyone who would like to attend may register on-site at Marina Village. A one-day all-access pass is only $149, and a two-day all-access pass is just $299.

Industry analysts from internationally recognized market research or financial institutions and members of the press may attend Global Mobile 2003, free of charge. For more information, go to www.sms.ac/globalmobile and click on the "Press and Analysts" tab.
