Nokia targets strong position in outsourced network operations

Leading up to the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, Nokia outlines its view on operations outsourcing, based on recent trends and developments in the mobile network infrastructure business. Nokia sees that operations outsourcing will be instrumental in helping operators achieve further operations expenditure (OPEX) savings and move away from day-to-day operations of their networks and focus on serving their customers.

Nokia's global service organization and execution capability provides its customers a full service portfolio covering all technical operations - planning, building, integrating, operating and optimizing networks and mobile services. The unique Nokia NetAct(TM), which brings added value to this offering, is a fully-featured multi-vendor, multi-technology operations support system (OSS). Nokia NetAct(TM) is used both for network and service management and it is a single platform for automating and centralizing operations across 2G and 3G networks. With its complete range of services, systems, terminals, and performance know-how, Nokia is well positioned to manage networks for operators who choose the benefits of operations outsourcing.

"Nokia encourages mobile operators to take a close look at the benefits of operations outsourcing," says Dr. JT Bergqvist, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Business Units, Networks, Nokia. "This market is now ripening and we intend to take a strong position in it, building on our solid mobile operator customer base. We are geared up to this through our unique systems portfolio and our global service capabilities. We are in a very good position to serve our customers well when they are redefining their own business system and proceeding with outsourcing options."

Dr. Bergqvist continues, "This shift is taking place now thanks to the developments of the past two years, as mobile operators shift their focus to creating new services. In this new environment, mobile operators can achieve savings of around 20% in network operations expenditures. The trend is clear and so are the benefits."

As Nokia expands its operations outsourcing activities, it can draw on its over 15-year track record of implementing and operating networks and its extensive practical experience of implementing mobile services for the operators. Nokia has contracted operating services for 15 operators globally, in addition to providing full turnkey implementations for a total of 24 operators. Nokia NetAct(TM) has been delivered to over 100 operators.
