Major order to Volvo Trucks in Britain

GOTEBORG, Sweden, March 12, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Volvo Trucks in Great Britain has received an order for 225 trucks from nationwide DIY ("Do it yourself") chain B&Q. Deliveries of the trucks have already begun and will continue through to the end of May 2005.

B&Q is one of the leading building-materials retailers in the British Isles, with 324 shops in Great Britain and Ireland, and 26,000 employees. Last year the company purchased 34 trucks, which have been subjected to stringent, testing ever since. The tests yielded good results, prompting the new order for an additional 225 vehicles.

The current order encompasses 420 hp versions of the Volvo FH12 tractor, fully equipped with features such as air conditioning and built-in telephone. What is more, all the trucks have been specified with Volvo I-Shift, the computer-controlled automated gear box that gives excellent fuel economy.

Last year, the company sold 5,674 trucks in Britain, making it Volvo Trucks' second largest market.
