Northrop Grumman Wins $220 Million Joint Analytical Support Program Contract

HERNDON, Va., May 13, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded a contract from the Department of Defense to continue providing on-site analytical support to the Joint Staff and Combatant Commands.

The joint analytical support (JASP) contract is an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract and its value has a potential ceiling of $220 million over a five-year period that includes one base year and four one-year options.

As part of this follow-on contract, Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector will also provide analytical support services to the Army Training and Doctrine Command Analysis Center, Ft. Leavenworth, Kan. This includes operations research and systems analysis support; systems engineering analysis and implementation; modeling and simulation development; wargaming and defense issues analysis; data-mining support; and local area network design and implementation.

"The Department of Defense and Combatant Commanders need to make quick decisions during times of conflict," said Kent Schneider, president, Defense Enterprise Solutions, Northrop Grumman IT. "Our experience with joint analytic transformation will continue to allow a much faster decision cycle for our customers."

Work on this contract will facilitate analytical and technical collaboration between the various JASP sites, other military agencies and federal and state agencies, including educational institutions. An additional feature of the JASP analytical support includes reach-back support to JASP sites worldwide. This reach-back feature is useful for sites that may not have analytical capabilities on site and could obtain support from a central location. The reach-back support is provided from Northrop Grumman IT's modeling, simulation, and analysis center in Arlington, Va., where the support infrastructure and classified environment is already installed to support customer needs.

Northrop Grumman currently provides joint analytical support working with 12 major military command sites as well as the Joint Staff site in the Pentagon. Northrop Grumman has approximately 120 employees and 25 subcontractors working at these sites and anticipates adding 50 employees on this follow-on contract.

"We are providing the Defense Department, with innovative solutions to existing requirements and to future transformational challenges," said Dr. William Lese, vice president, Simulation, Analysis, and Training Systems, Northrop Grumman IT. "Northrop Grumman continues to bring new and efficient methodologies to support commanders' decision making, and an innovative approach resulting from collaboration between Northrop Grumman and the JASP user community."

Northrop Grumman's Mission Systems sector supports the current JASP program at Strategic Command in Omaha, Neb. They provide operational analysis; modeling and simulation; systems analysis support; and systems engineering analysis and implementation.

The Information Technology sector team includes the following major subcontractors: AT&T, New York, N.Y.; Booz Allen Hamilton, McLean, Va.; CACI, Arlington, Va.; Perot Systems, Plano, Texas; SAIC, San Diego; Teledyne Brown Engineering, Los Angeles; and Unisys, Blue Bell, Pa.
