MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (May 24, 2004) - Nokia (NYSE: NOK) today announced the newest version of its Nokia IPSO operating system, delivering significant performance improvements across Nokia's entire IP security platform portfolio. Nokia IPSO 3.8, an appliance-optimized, security-hardened, clusterable Operating System (OS), will increase firewall and Virtual Private Network (VPN) performance on all new and existing Nokia IP security platforms, providing a complementary, easily downloadable boost to Nokia's entire installed base.
Nokia IPSO 3.8 provides a two to six-fold increase in firewall Connections Per Second (CPS) performance, in addition to enabling up to three times improved VPN performance, based on the specific hardware platform and processors in those platforms. This performance enhancement results in cost and time savings, as well as extends the life of customer investments. Hard disk mirroring, redundant and hot swap components for select Nokia IP platforms ensure additional reliability.
Nokia IPSO 3.8 is built with security hardening, advanced routing, high availability (HA) and core clustering capabilities. Leveraging Check Point Software Technology Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP) SecureXL 2.1 API, Nokia IPSO 3.8 delivers a significant increase in firewall CPS throughput and VPN encryption performance, as well as cost savings with improved dollar per megabit throughput across Nokia's IP platform family.
"The new IPSO 3.8 operating system supports our belief that security is the foundation of mobility. Our goal is to provide unrivaled IT mobility expertise as we continuously innovate and evolve our technology, developing new capabilities to fulfill the needs of our customer base," said John Robinson, senior vice president and general manager, Nokia's Enterprise Mobility Systems unit. "Nokia's IPSO operating system has been a unique market differentiator with its secure operating system, engineered specifically for optimizing network security applications."
Nokia IPSO 3.8 also provides administrator tools to manage Nokia IP security platforms through a choice of Web-based Nokia Network Voyager interface or comprehensive Command Line Interface (CLI). Each of these interfaces enables complete configuration of Nokia IPSO devices in all their details and variations, and are robust interfaces for complete single device management.
"Check Point is committed to working with Nokia to support the IPSO platform and continuing to deliver industry-leading 'Secured by Check Point' solutions that provide the best in Internet security to our joint customers," said Gonen Fink, vice president solutions and strategy of Check Point Software Technologies. "Nokia's IPSO operating system provides optimal levels of security without sacrificing performance - all at an attractive price."
The security, performance and reliability of Nokia's entire IP security appliance family is backed by Nokia's world-class First Call - Final Resolution global support and service.
The release of Nokia IPSO 3.8 coincides with the announcement of two new Nokia high-end firewall and VPN appliances, Nokia IP2250 and Nokia IP1220 (see separate release). Nokia IPSO 3.8 will ship on these two new security appliances, as well as all new Nokia IP security platforms. IPSO 3.8 is available for download from the IP Security Platforms product page on the Nokia Support site for customers who have purchased support.
