The Trial of Mankind -- Fate of Human Race Debated in Heavenly Courtroom

SYLVANIA, Ohio, July 22, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- The future of mankind is the hot issue in the new four-act play, The Heavenly Trial (now available through AuthorHouse), by Dauvid (Donald Steinberg, M.D.), which follows a courtroom drama to decide whether mankind should be destroyed or given a second chance.

Mankind has failed. Humans have not made progress in their relationships with others, and their continual disregard for the balance of nature angers God. Metatron the Cherub, who God appointed to oversee the visible universe, is now the judge in one of the most important trials ever: one to decide the fate of humanity.

The streets of heaven are buzzing about this crucial trial, particularly along the main boulevard where the synagogue, the "We Finally Got It Right" Casino, the Elysian Cafe and the Hall of Judgment are located. At the Hall of Judgment, Metatron mediates arguments between Mr. Snake, the defense attorney working to save mankind, and the Angel Gabriel, the prosecuting attorney.

The defense argues that humans are a work in progress. Mr. Snake calls noted human souls to the stand, including Sigmund Freud and Albert Einstein, as witnesses for the defense. Gabriel and his witnesses, including Nicollo Machiavilli and the apostle, Paul, maintain that mankind is stuck in its ways and will never change.

The Heavenly Trial, interspersed with songs and humorous anecdotes, is a unique portrayal of heaven. Providing comic relief throughout the play, Eve tries to get even with Mr. Snake for being kicked out of the Garden of Eden and for the pain women suffer during childbirth.

A lighthearted look at the failures of mankind and the unseen forces in the universe, Steinberg's play offers both entertainment and enlightenment.

Steinberg is a retired general surgeon. He has written two other books, Expanding Your Horizons, a motivational book for young people about the lives of the Ohio State University 1942 national championship football team, and Cataclysm, a science-fiction novel about the unstable movement of the Earth's axis of rotation.
