Harland Enhances Ability to Promote Financial Institutions' Products and Brands

HarlandImpact(sm) Combines Proprietary Analytics and Digital Technology to Deliver Targeted Messages

ATLANTA, Sept. 20, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- A new offering from John H. Harland Company (NYSE:JH) enhances a financial institution's ability to market to its customers on a one-to-one basis, sell more products and services to those customers and increases awareness of the financial institution's individual brand.

HarlandImpact(sm) leverages Harland's unique combination of behavioral models created from the largest financial services database in the country and its digital print technology. It enables financial institutions to deliver statistically based targeted messages to their customers through the checkbook.

Targeted messages are developed by combining a financial institution's marketing data with Stratics(tm), Harland's proprietary predictive behavioral models. The unique capability of inserting these messages into the end-users' check orders is driven by Harland's digital print technology, the most advanced in the industry.

"HarlandImpact allows Provident Bank to achieve key business objectives by leveraging every check order we fulfill as a means to cross-sell and up-sell our products and services," said John King, group manager, community banking, at Provident Bank. "It is a one-of-a-kind solution that turns the check book into another marketing medium for expanding our customer relationships and achieving improved share of wallet."

Provident Bank uses six other Harland products and services in addition to HarlandImpact, including direct marketing, Encore! Teller(r), Encore Platform and Call Center, Laser Pro(r) lending compliance solution and Stratics.

"We focus on helping financial institutions sell more of their products and services and on promoting awareness of our customers' brands, and HarlandImpact enhances our ability to do both," said Steve Albright, vice president of marketing and general manager of checks and forms for Harland Printed Products, a division of Harland. "We have already demonstrated that HarlandImpact can impact other areas of a financial institution's operations. For example, it has a proven ability to increase balances on existing accounts."

HarlandImpact offers three flexible options that allow financial institutions to employ various marketing approaches depending on their marketing objectives and the products or services an accountholder is most likely to purchase next. HarlandImpact SP (Stratics Platform), the premier solution, provides one-to-one messaging using Stratics predictive analytics and analysis to measure the return on investment (ROI) of individual marketing campaigns. HarlandImpact OP (Open Platform) leverages a financial institution's own analytics and segmentation to market to individuals or groups with similar buying behavior. HarlandImpact GP (Generic Platform) reaches a financial institution's entire customer base easily and effectively to broadly market specific product and services. Financial institutions using HarlandImpact OP or GP can also integrate additional direct marketing services available from Harland to deploy and maintain successful marketing campaigns.
