Mechanicsburg, PA Hospital is First Rehab and First HealthSouth Facility to Purchase Vianeta Harmony

MILPITAS, Calif. & MECHANICSBURG, Pa., Sept. 21, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Mechanicsburg -- the largest freestanding rehabilitation facility in Central Pennsylvania and one of the largest in the state -- is the first physical medicine rehab hospital and the first HealthSouth facility to purchase Vianeta Harmony, said Vianeta Communications Chief Operating Officer Ralph Aceves.

Vianeta, a software developer headquartered in Milpitas, Calif., has pioneered the use of XML technology to create Vianeta Harmony, a unified Web-based e-HIM (Health Information Management) software platform. Hundreds of hospitals and clinics throughout North America use Vianeta Harmony -- the only native XML health IT solution on the market -- to reduce cost, improve revenue cycles, maximize efficiency, prevent errors, improve quality, ensure patient privacy and build a solid foundation for a true electronic medical record.

"Our Dictaphone dictation/transcription solution was more than eight years old and needed to be replaced," explained Kerri Handworth, HIM Director at the 103-bed hospital. "We considered a Dictaphone upgrade but decided to investigate what else was out there. After careful evaluation, it was clear Vianeta could provide a superior solution and a higher level of customer service."

"Vianeta Harmony was found to be one of the more user-friendly of all the products we investigated. We also quickly realized that Vianeta's Web-based design would help us easily begin moving all our documents online, thereby helping us more effectively prepare for a future EMR (electronic medical record) install."

"All in all, we found Vianeta Harmony to be advanced, intuitive and affordable. The system uses native XML (Extensible Markup Language) so it can communicate patient health information in a granular form with our HIS (hospital information system) quite easily without the expensive interfaces other systems require. Other vendors require expensive Word deployments and proprietary hardware. Vianeta's open architecture lets us use whatever off-the-shelf hardware we prefer. As a result, we can minimize our IT investment and support needs. More than 25 dictating physicians affiliated with the Mechanicsburg hospital will eventually use Vianeta Harmony, added Aceves. "Our product is available in a modular fashion, so you can buy it 'piece by piece.' We are pleased HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Mechanicsburg decided to invest in the advantages of our full end-to-end solution."
