WHAT: Furnace Safety Demonstration at a customer's home. An SDG&E service technician and a Spanish-speaking spokesperson will discuss and demonstrate furnace safety tips, how to re-light furnace pilot lights and other simple steps to follow to ensure the safe operation of home heating appliances. WHEN: Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004 Availability from 9:00 a.m. to noon WHERE: 6915 Bruce Court, La Mesa 8 East, take the Lake Murray Blvd exit toward 70th Street. Take ramp toward Alvarado Rd West/70th Street. Merge onto Lake Murray Blvd, which becomes 70th Street. Turn right onto Bruce Court. House is on the left, toward the end of the cul de sac. WHY: Winter is approaching, and evenings are turning chillier. Homeowners and renters will be turning their furnaces on for the first time. SDG&E wants to help customers avoid delays in service by urging them to call now to have furnace pilot lights lit. Proper and regular maintenance of home furnaces and gas logs can help prevent production of carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless, and toxic gas. VISUALS: An SDG&E service technician in uniform will inspect burner flame, replace furnace filter, check venting and discuss steps consumers can take to prepare their furnace for winter to ensure safe operation.
