HOUSTON, Dec. 7, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Port of Houston Authority (PHA) today announced the appointment of Aston Hinds as Environmental Affairs Manager. Hinds' principle responsibilities will be to ensure the port maintains proper regulatory compliance, to implement strategies to meet stakeholder expectations, and to continue improvement in environmental performance.

Since 2003, Hinds has been the principal of Chempro International, L.L.C., a Houston environmental consulting and project management firm that provides services to the oil and gas industry in the areas of health, safety, environment, corporate social responsibility and reputation management. Previously, Hinds served in various capacities for the Halliburton Company and its subsidiaries, including vice president of global health, safety and environment at Halliburton from 1998 to 2002, vice president of environmental health and safety operations at Dresser Industries from 1994 to 1998, and vice president of environmental services at the Baroid Corporation from 1989 to 1994. His background experience also includes positions as director of operations and manager of technology development for TRW Environmental Services from 1987 to 1989 and manager of analytical and environmental services at Baroid Drilling Fluids from 1980 to 1987.

Hinds earned both a Bachelor of Science degree with honors and a Master of Science degree in soil chemistry from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. He later received a Doctorate of Philosophy in applied science from the University of British Columbia. Additionally, Hinds has attended the Executive MBA Program at the University of Houston and the Management Program at Rice University. Among his professional endeavors, Hinds serves as chairman of the Environmental Conservation and Safety Committee of the National Ocean Industries Association. He also served as a board member for the Petroleum Equipment Suppliers Association, the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, and the Global Environmental Management Initiative. Hinds is a renowned keynote speaker at numerous national and international industry conferences.
