The introduction of IMPAX will allow radiologists to diagnose from the two hospital sites MR examinations (which are performed at one site only), shortening reporting throughput and eventually providing referring physicians and general practitioners with examination results more quickly. Hospital clinicians at both sites will access examination results using the WEB1000(TM) web server interface.
The IMPAX at AZ Sint-Maarten will be integrated with Agfa's RIS and speech technology solutions and will connect with the medical patient record. The IMPAX solution will be installed on one site and connected to the other site with a 100 Mbps line. Reports will be made from nine IMPAX DS3000 diagnostic display stations, spread over both sites. At each site an outpatient CD-ROM-burning solution will be available.
The hospital's Medical Imaging departments will also be equipped with Agfa's CR 75.0 and CR 25.0 digitizers. All imaging activities, with the exception of mammography, will then be fully digital and integrated in the IMPAX environment.
The ten radiologists at AZ Sint-Maarten perform some 80,000 radiology examinations annually. They are looking forward to the added flexibility and efficiency the new solutions will bring. They expect IMPAX to bring more flexibility to the radiologists. The radiologists will be able to report from any campus or from home, when they are on weekend or night duty. This flexibility will lead to reduced reporting turnaround. The possibility to select the more urgent patient cases from the IMPAX worklist and the on-line access to patient priors will further enhance the quality of their services.
The Department of Medical Imaging of AZ Sint-Maarten has a longstanding relationship with Agfa and anticipates that Agfa's expert team will finalize the implementation within five months time.
