QLogic Announces Industry's First Fibre Channel Adapter Based on New PCIe ExpressModule Specification

SANblade QEM2462 Adapters Deliver Tool-less Installation/Removal and Hot-Plug

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 23, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- QLogic(r) Corp. (Nasdaq:QLGC), the leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs), today announced the industry's first Fibre Channel adapter based on the PCIe ExpressModule(tm) specification. Featuring tool-less installation, tool-less removal, hot-plug capability and 4Gb performance, the SANblade(r) QEM2462 Adapter is the latest addition to the QLogic SAN Pro(tm) line of high reliability, high performance host bus adapters, switches and software. The SANblade QEM2462 adapter will be on display in the QLogic booth at the Intel Developer Forum today through August 25.

"Enterprise system administrators demand high reliability and high performance infrastructure to support their business-critical applications," said Roger Klein, vice president of HBA product marketing, QLogic Corp. "The ability to hot-plug the SANblade QEM2462 adapter, combined with 4Gb Fibre Channel speeds will improve system reliability and performance."

"The introduction of Fibre Channel ExpressModules further expands the ExpressModule specification and provides enterprise users with additional options in I/O form factors and serviceability," noted Jim Pappas, Director of Technology Initiatives, Server Platforms Group, Intel Corporation. "Companies such as QLogic are helping drive the continued advancement and integration of PCI Express adapters."

About PCIe ExpressModule

PCIe ExpressModule is a new form factor for PCI Express I/O adapters. Formerly referred to as "Server I/O Module" within the PCI-SIG(r), the Special Interest Group responsible for PCI Express(tm) industry-standard I/O technology, this new specification defines hot-pluggable I/O modular form factors that greatly improve reliability and design flexibility for enterprise-class server and workstation platforms. PCIe ExpressModule offers IT professionals a standardized management interface for I/O expansion modules in servers and workstations. The specification gives developers this integrated hot-plug feature for the same cost as non-hot-pluggable options, as well as closed chassis, tool-less adapter installation and removal, which significantly reduces system downtime.

"It is exciting to see the first implementations of the PCIe ExpressModule specification," said Tony Pierce, PCI-SIG chairman. "The PCI-SIG welcomes the continued support of QLogic to deliver more options in I/O form factors and serviceability to the enterprise segment."
