KESKO CORPORATION PRESS RELEASE 24.05.2006 AT 13.00


Kesko scholarships went to 16 young artists and 24 promising athletes in various parts of Finland. The recipients were chosen on the recommendations of fine arts universities and sports associations.
 
The recipients of sports scholarships included the Finnish Association of Sports for the Disabled, the Finnish Gymnastics Federation Svoli, and the Swedish Sports Federation in Finland. The recipients of culture scholarships represented four fine arts universities - the Academy of Fine Arts, the Sibelius Academy, the University of Art and Design Helsinki, and the Theatre Academy. 11 scholarships in all were awarded for the polytechnics' nationwide Bachelor's thesis competition.
 
Donations to support work for the public good were granted to UNICEF and to the Happy Christmas Spirit collection organised by the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare and the Finnish Red Cross. Kesko also supports war veteran organisations and WWF Finland's 'Operation Mermaid' programme for the protection of the Baltic Sea, which is part of the Kesko Group's cooperation agreement with the WWF.
 
The names of recipients were published on Wednesday, 24 May in the event arranged at the Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, and the scholarships and donations were presented by Heikki Takamäki, Chairman of Kesko Corporation's Board of Directors and Matti Halmesmäki, President and CEO. Antti Kalliomäki, Minister of Education, was also present at the event.
