Police TASER Device Stops Hostage Situation and Prevents Injuries

WASHINGTON, June 13, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices, released the following News Alert:

According to a news report from Houston's KTRK-ABC Channel 13, Houston Police responded to an armed hostage situation involving a six year-old boy and an older male, believed to be the child's father or stepfather, at an apartment on Richmond and Amanda today. The man ran into an apartment with the boy but police were able to talk him into coming into the stairwell where they used a TASER device to apprehend the man and bring him into custody with no injuries to the suspect or the young boy.

According to Officer Robert Taylor of the Houston Police department, "The TASER worked very well. It stopped him from reaching for his weapon and allowed us to actually take him into custody without actually physically hurting him very much."
