REMINDER, July 18, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) --
WHAT: A media availability to outline upcoming field tests of
approximately 1,000 two-way, automated smart electric
meters. If approved, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) will
replace virtually all of its customers' meters over the
next six years at a cost of $450 million. The new meters
will report outages more quickly, allowing for quicker
restoration of power and will potentially pave the way for
the smart home, with remote control of automated
appliances. Several areas will be part of the tests, and
SDG&E will describe the areas, customer notification and
proposed follow-up activities before the start of the test.
