NASDAQ Announces July Market Performance Statistics


NEW YORK, Aug. 14, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. (Nasdaq:NDAQ) today announced its consolidated market performance statistics for the NASDAQ Market Center, INET and Brut trading platforms for the month of July.

NASDAQ continued to capture a greater percentage of market share and share volume in NYSE-listed securities. During July 2006, NASDAQ's average daily share volume in NYSE-listed securities was approximately 618.2 million, compared with 594.6 million in June and 315.3 million in July 2005. Matched market share (see Note) in NYSE-listed securities increased to 10.75% in July from 8.9% in June. NASDAQ's touched market share in NYSE-listed securities rose to 22.9% in July from 21.4% in June.

NASDAQ's total market share in NYSE-listed securities in July was 25.5%. Included in the total market share figure for July is 14.7% in NYSE-listed securities executed by broker-dealers and reported to NASDAQ.

NASDAQ's total market share in NASDAQ-listed securities in July was 76.2%. Included in the total market share figure for July is 27.4% in NASDAQ securities executed by broker-dealers and reported to NASDAQ, compared to 29.0% in June.

Matched market share in NASDAQ-listed securities was relatively unchanged at 48.8% in July compared to 48.9% in June and touched market share in NASDAQ-listed securities in July was also relatively unchanged at 55.1% compared to 55.3% the previous month.

NASDAQ's total market share in NASDAQ-listed securities is total share volume of NASDAQ-listed securities that are executed on the NASDAQ Market Center, INET and/or Brut books, plus internalized volume, as a percentage of total consolidated NASDAQ market volume. Shares routed to other market centers for execution are not included.

Total market share in NYSE-listed securities is based on total share volume of NYSE-listed securities that are executed on the NASDAQ Market Center, INET and/or Brut books, plus internalized volume as a percentage of total consolidated NYSE market volume.

Matched market share represents total share volume of NASDAQ or NYSE-listed securities that are executed on the NASDAQ Market Center, INET or Brut books as a percentage of total consolidated NASDAQ or NYSE market volume.

Touched market share represents total share volume of NASDAQ or NYSE-listed securities that are executed on the NASDAQ Market Center, INET or Brut books plus volume of shares routed to other market centers for execution, as a percentage of consolidated NASDAQ or NYSE market volume.
