LAKEWOOD, CO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 1, 2006 -- Jefferson County Public Library now offers one
more reason to become a library card holder. With a Jefferson County
library card, patrons can download their favorite audio books and music day
or night from their home computer at no cost.
More than 1,000 audio books and music selections are available on the
Library's digital web site, http://jefferson.lib.overdrive.com. The
downloadable collection features popular fiction and music, as well as
business, biography, self-improvement, foreign language resources and other
non-fiction genres. Additional titles will be added regularly.
"With computers and the Internet more accessible than ever, we are pleased
to offer digital audio book and music downloads. There was incredible
patron demand for the service," said County Librarian Bill Knott. "Now
patrons can listen to their favorite titles anytime, anywhere."
The audio books and music selections can be downloaded to Windows® PCs
and laptops, Pocket PCs and transferred to compatible MP3 players. Many of
the titles can also be burned to CD for enjoyment anytime, anywhere. The
technology for the audio book and music download service is provided by
OverDrive, Inc., based in Cleveland, Ohio.
To check out the audio files, patrons download free software onto their
personal PC. After browsing the collection and selecting a title, a valid
library card number is entered to download the title. Patrons can check
out up to 10 files at a time. After 10 days, the files expire and are
automatically returned, eliminating the potential for late fees.
