Last Chance for Animals Vows to Fight The Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act

WASHINGTON, DC -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 28, 2006 --President Bush signed The Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA, S 3880 ENR) into law Monday, November 27th. The AETA could make it a crime to cause any business classified as an "animal enterprise" (e.g., pet stores, factory farms, rodeos and circuses) to suffer a profit loss -- even if the company's so-called "economic disruption" is caused by peaceful protests or undercover investigations.

The AETA was fast-tracked through the Senate and the House. The bill passed the Senate by unanimous consent in September and by the House of Representatives in November with little discussion or dissent.

"The AETA not only puts our Constitution in jeopardy, it puts all who speak out against the status quo in jeopardy. Animal rights activists, civil rights activists, the media, entertainers and even the NRA are all in danger of being called 'Terrorists.' The broad language creates a dangerous slippery slope that can be used to take away our First Amendment rights and put innocent people in jail!" states LCA President Chris DeRose.
